Palermo Marina Yachting

Palermo's new trapezoidal pier that reconnects the sea to the historic center

One of the unmissable attractions to discover the identity of the Sicilian capital is the brand new Palermo Marina Yachting, the trapezoidal pier just a 15-minute walk from Arché Design Rooms & Suites and brings the sea back to the heart of the historic center of Palermo.

The work of the architect Sebastiano Provenzano, it is the result of an urban redevelopment work that began 20 years ago with the recovery of the nearby Foro Italico and aimed at returning the city to its sea, that "dark and severe blue" sea as Goethe describes it in his "Journey to Italy", which has shaped the history and identity of the people of Palermo.

The area that extends from Cala to Sant'Erasmo has been the place of conversations and romantic walks that nobles once took here in carriages, just outside the city walls.

Today this memory has been reinvented with a new cycle-pedestrian waterfront that extends for 26 thousand square meters and connects the Cala, whose club light up in the evening at the Castello a Mare, an archaeological area that contains several fortifications used for defensive purposes, during the Norman and Bourbon domination, and as the seat of the prisons and tribunals of the Inquisition in Aragonese and Spanish times.

The new area includes a square, commercial buildings, a convention center, excellent restaurants overlooking the water, a small panoramic amphitheater, an auditorium, mooring areas for mega yachts and an artificial lake with the largest dancing water fountain in Italy which every evening, with its display of water game and light, enchants residents and tourists following the notes of famous songs loved by the general public.

There is no shortage of green areas, with characteristic palm trees, which create a gentle contrast with the blue color of the water and sky but at the same time mend that bond between land and sea long broken in the city. A multifaceted space, like the soul of the people of Palermo, to be experienced in the Sicilian capital, walking, shopping , enjoying some of the best food and wine the city offers.
